Congratulations to Aubrey and David!

Congrats on your great feature in today’s Emmaline Bride! It was so amazing to work with you both!

Happy Snow Day!

Be safe tomorrow everyone, and enjoy the snow!

My favorite month

Check out this sweetie pie! The first time I met Dina and Mark was at my first Cherry Blossom Mini Sessions, two years ago now. Since then, they’ve become regular clients and good friends, and added to their family. Natalie is their newest addition, baby sister to Anthony. They brought her into the studio for her 6-month session, which is, incidentally, my absolute favorite time to photograph a little baby. They’re super chubby, just sitting up (and comically falling down) and can’t move too quickly yet! I laughed through this entire session (and nearly ate her toes:).

More soon!

Baby Love

I love maternity shoots. Oriana and her husband are having a little girl, and are so, so excited!
When I asked Oriana about how she was feeling, with near tears in her eyes, she held onto her stomach and said “this baby girl is VERY wanted”. I’m so happy for you guys, and can’t wait to meet her!

January Darlings

Hi all!
I hope everyone has had a wonderful start to 2011. We’ve welcomed the new year with plenty of newborn, maternity and special event sessions. I thought we’d open the 2011 blogging season with some cuties. Mave is the newest addition to one of my family clients that has been with us since the very beginning. She’s such a precious little girl, and her big sister is such a great help. Look at those gorgeous eyes!
And little Ethan is the first baby to my really close friends. He has a very serious camera persona ๐Ÿ™‚ No smiles for you!

Happy Birthday to Us!

Stacey Vaeth Photography Turns Three!
When I conceived of this business idea in 2007, it felt like the most far-away, impossible dream ever. But once I committed myself to making a go of it, it seemed like the world aligned to support me in making the idea a reality. Thanks to each and every one of you who have encouraged me along the way. And to my clients, you’re not only what keeps me going, you’re who keep me inspired. I’ve loved working with each and every one of you and look forward to working together for years to come.
Here’s to a great 2011!

Lessons Learned and Lived

As I wind down this year as a business owner, I’m beginning to feel that running a business mimics the growth from birth into adulthood. The first years you are just learning express yourself, to handle new experiences at every turn, to bounce back from making mistakes and learning not to do that again! It seems to me, that as a business enters its adolescence phase, the extremeness of every day begins to wane, the work becomes a bit more comfortable, the mistakes become (thankfully) less frequent, and its identity becomes clearer. As I enter into this new phase, I’m called to look back on 2010, and what lessons I might take with me as I continue to grow even more. At the risk of sounding like a Dr. Seuss book, as I write this, I’m coming full circle, realizing that these ‘business’ lessons are actually lessons for life.
the thought process goes like this

keep it magical

 keep it silly
breathe deeply
surround ourselves with those who love us, and who help us thrive
ask for hugs
value the little moments

venture into new territory
 learn from our history
take it easy
 laugh a lot
 create tradition
 love deeply
 eat deliciously, both sweet
and savory
 be girly
 share the love
 find bliss

 pay attention
  surprise yourself, and others
 do yoga
 be independent
 be a good sibling
 trust
 keep it simple
 celebrate the small miracles
 look up to others
and have fun.

To all of my clients – thank you! It’s been a wonderful year working with you! I truly look forward to sharing more fun memories in 2011!

All my best,
Stacey

Sunday Sunday

Some great sessions today – although we were freezing in morning and afternoon – you can’t tell in these shots!

First, an early morning engagement session with Melissa and Tripp at the Kennedy Center and Lincoln Memorial. They met at GW as freshman in college, and both worked at the Kennedy Center restaurant while in school. After many years of dating, Tripp popped the question, after a taking a surprise flight to  Texas to ask her father for his permission. This was the first shot of the morning – love the connection between them!

And this was probably the last shot of the day…

Congratulations Tripp and Melissa!

And then this afternoon, I went back to Georgetown to do another family session with Angela and Matt. Hank and Jude are just the cutest kids ever. It was so much fun to work with you guys again! Thanks for hanging in there with the freezing cold!

Love

I am just hooked on this beautiful little girl…some images are best appreciated enlarged to wall art size – and this is one of them. I just love how independent she is in this shot (and in person). What a gorgeous fall.

Oh, and her big brother’s pretty cute himself :)!
