Yoga in DC
Posted on March 8, 2010
Working with the yogis at Past Tense Studio has allowed me to explore photography in a totally new way. Not only can these guys do some really bendy things that make a photo instantly interesting, but there is also a real adventurous spirit that enters the shoot when they get in front of the camera. Yesterday we worked in an alley in Mt Pleasant street, on a driveway, and in an empty garage…so very glamorous.
This is my favorite image I have taken in some time – many thanks to Simone for styling.
So why do I love it? The grafitti off left seems like clouds drifting through the scene, while Caroline’s expression mimicks the same. The complimentary colors of orange and blue hold your eye on the subject and frame, without any other color or bit of sky, or bright spot drawing your attention elsewhere. As well, the door frame “holding” Caroline is just a neat thing. Not to mention she is the exact height of the door, and fills it top to bottom and side to side, completely.
Anyway, it’s weird, it’s quirky, and it’s really natural. Makes me love it.

Here Comes the Sun…
Posted on March 1, 2010
Thank goodness this sun is coming back. The days are getting longer and I can just feel it trying to warm up out there. Baby Cessily (remember our Little Elf? That’s her!) came back for a second session yesterday, and we enjoyed the sun streaming in the studio windows. Her little pink dress just brightened everything up!

So, as I get ready to embark on what is already a really full spring and summer schedule, I’d like to maximize the weekends that are still free. Let me know…are there sessions you want me to offer? Ballerinas in tutu’s mini session? Fishing poles at the Tidal Basin? Products that you’d love to see? Hit me up in the comments with any ideas you’ve got.

Lions, Elephants and Monkey’s – Oh My!
Posted on February 23, 2010

I don’t often stop long enough to promote another company’s products, but when I was approached by Mirasa Design, I was left speechless by how much I love their toys. I instantly jumped at their request to do their photography, enlisted some of my great clients to bring their kids to model, and off we went.
Well, at long last, the product is ready for prime time! Mirasa Design is launching their My Fun Line this Saturday from 4 – 7pm. Swing on by with the kids for some fun time!

Back to London for a Final Farewell…
Posted on February 4, 2010
Well, not physically, but I am returning to the images from London to share a few of my favorites from our last night there. These are shots of the skyline of my new favorite city. It’s this magic hour when I really love photography, when the light goes perfect twilight and twinkly, and mixes with those lights that have just turned on for the evening. And a better subject than the entire skyline? Doubtful.
there it is kids, big ben. parliment.

And this very helpful sign that was on every streetcorner (are there that many tourists? Or is there another reason I’m missing?) No matter. It saved my life on a number of occasions.
The lands of water…

I’m in Galway, Ireland right now and finally back online. Here’s a few quick pics from the last days…
Doolin coast – the Aran Islands are off to the distance on the right of the frame. This is from the shore right at the base of the town of Doolin. Doolin is a quiet little town (read: under 10 stores/restaurants/bars) known for trad music and home, I have to say, to the best seafood chowder on the planet.
Another rainy night in London…
A snowy day in Gstaad, Switzerland..
On the scenic train-ride from Geneva to Gstaad…
Castles, castles, everywhere. Decending the mountainside into Doolin.
The Burren, Ireland.

London Town
Posted on January 30, 2010
I’m in Ireland, about to shove off for the west coast, but finally have internet access. So here is a very quick glimpse of a few favs from London. More to come once I have a chance to upload them. London blew me away. Even in the middle of January, the city was alive, smiling, oh-so-friendly and just packed with things to do and see.
The Tube and Big Ben…
Streets along the Thames…
The Summerset House…a great little museaum with a Modigliani that blew me away, Rubin, Van Gough, Manet, Monet, sculpture by Degas…
And two very happy faces after sharing a Ploughman’s Platter at a local pub. Self timer photograph of my sister in law, Paola, and I.
