Stacey and Mike – Engagement and Proposal Session – Washington, D.C.

Mike came to me with a special request – to photograph his proposal to the love of his life, Stacey. We arranged a paparrazi-style proposal shoot, wherein I was positioned in just the right spot to capture the proposal but where she wouldn’t notice me. The proposal was perfect. Sweet and natural, intimate but in front of many hundreds of DC tourists.

91553We met up a few weeks later for a proper engagement session, down by the National Portrait Gallery.I can’t wait to shoot your wedding in October, Mike and Stacey! It will be as perfect a day as all the rest …

Danielle and Peter – Chelsea Piers, New York City Wedding

Two weekends ago, I had the absolute pleasure of traveling to NYC to shoot the wedding of Danielle to Peter. This trip was long awaited. The wedding was originally scheduled for October 2012. The plans were made, engagement session done, flights arranged for hundreds of guests. Danielle said to me: if the weather is terrible (likely in late October in New York), it doesn’t matter. We have a gorgeous venue on the water, with amazing views. So it will be beautiful no matter what. Who would have seen Hurricane Sandy coming the week before their wedding? For someone who intentionally selected their venue as one with a great bad weather alternative, the irony was just too much. But Danielle and Peter are sincerely fun-loving, roll-with-it kind of people. They rescheduled for March 30th (and though my family clients weren’t happy about giving up a prime time Cherry Blossom weekend to an out of town wedding), I was thrilled to still be able to go up and shoot.

The wedding was held at Chelsea Piers (if you haven’t been, look it up!). They had a picture – perfect day. No traffic snafu’s, incredible weather, a gorgeous and happy wedding party, and about a million guests who were all about celebrating them that weekend. It could not have been more perfect.

Danielle and Peter, I wish you guys a lifetime of happiness together. My very best to you both – and have so much fun on your Spain honeymoon!

The first three pictures in this post were taking by my second shooter, the fabulous Abby Greenawalt…more on her at the bottom of this post.

To be timeless. I hope that I fulfilled her goal….as that’s my goal each and every time I shoot a wedding.DSC_6347 The emotional first look.DSC_6402 DSC_6403 DSC_6408-Edit DSC_6496 Danielle and her brother.DSC_6471 She tried on the hat for just a second….and then thought better of it!DSC_6468 DSC_6459 DSC_6438-Edit DSC_6502 Danielle and Peter were so excited about the Chelsea Piers venue. She said that she loved the “carnival feel” of the piers surrounding each of the spaces. I love the geometry of the doors, windows and stairwells, and the primary colors balanced with her white dress. Just perfect.DSC_6546 DSC_6562 DSC_6569 DSC_6584 DSC_6589 DSC_6603 DSC_6607-EditDSC_6641I love the gorgeous, springtime colors that Danielle picked for the girls. Given that the wedding was originally planned for October, I think that the palette worked out quite well!DSC_6737 DSC_6675 DSC_6666 One of the best bridesmaid gifts EVER! Customized Converse sneaks, coordinated with the girls dresses, and with their names written on the heels. So perfect for kicking up your heels and dancing, that the girls broke out into dance the second they put them on for the pics.DSC_6813   Danielle with her brother and sister-in-law      DSC_6897Peter with his brother and sister.DSC_7000-2DSC_6952 The venue was spectacular. Tea lights hanging from the ceiling, cherry blossoms overflowing in tall vases. So elegant and classically romantic. It’s like they took a picture-perfect garden reception and brought it into the big city. For you photographers out there, yes, that is a 12 foot black ceiling. One of the greatest photographic challenges we face.DSC_7191DSC_7200DSC_6950 DSC_6948 DSC_6940 DSC_7076-EditDanielle’s dance with her Dad. DSC_7094-Edit       DSC_7338 DSC_7366 DSC_7409DSC_7115

Thanks to the amazing Abby Greenawalt for her second shooting this wedding with me. She’s not only hilarious and a great friend, but an amazing shooter as well. Check out her work here: www.abbygreenawalt.com

Arabelle

I love when family recommends me to their relatives. Carole found me through Jolina, her cousin, who recommended me when Arabelle was born. It struck me, as I watched how Carole held Arabelle, how deep, unconditional and total mother-love can be. Many congratulations you guys, I can’t wait to work with you as she grows up!  56 25 9 7 5 2

Happy Days

My favorite sessions are the third or fourth with the same family. It’s amazing to see a mother-to-be being a mother, seeing an infant become a toddler, and seeing an engaged couple become united at their wedding.

As such, it was so great to work with these guys again for my third session with them in a year! By the way – how amazing is this nursery?!

Meeting Molly

I had the pleasure of shooting Rachel and Sam’s wedding two years ago, and was so delighted that they asked me to come shoot their newest addition, little Molly. She’s a precious addition to their fun-loving family. Many congratulations Rachel and Sam!ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageAnd what’s a baby session without a little spit up?! Forgive me, Molly, I couldn’t resist. Image

Baby it’s Cold Outside

Say hello to Mr. Bradey, or “baby brother” as he’s known in the family. I’ve been working with Leslie and Matt since Connor “big brother” was about this size. Every few months we meet to do a session, and these kids just keep getting cuter. We’ve worked at the old studio in Mt. Pleasant, in Rock Creek Park, at the Lincoln Memorial, and now here at my home in Silver Spring. I love working with this family. They’re really laid back and the kids are just the best. Little Bradey, when I picked him up, hugged me like a koala bear. The softest, strongest little baby grip you can imagine. You gotta love that.

Baby brother Bradey was in the basket…
So of course big brother needed to get in as well 🙂
Connor was into the session, most of the time. Then got tired of it.  Then apparently he was back into it, as he said to his mom “I have to do my picture taking”, and walked into the kitchen. So I shot a few at the kitchen table…some of my favorites.

Lovely Black and White.

Loved working with Tobie and her family. She comes to me from Allan Woods Flowers, a corporate client of mine, but on this occasion we worked on a personal level – so lovely.

Sweet Peas

I love working with the Lull family – their little boys are so, so sweet. This newborn session we did at their home (on their dining room table :).
